"History repeats itself; if you destroy the nature, it will destroy you."
orangutans are dying at unprecedented rate, inexorably approaching extinction. 100,000 orangutans died in Borneo just between 1999 and 2015, and that the island’s population has dramatically dropped.
The island sits off the east coast of Tasmania and its entire area forms the National Park. It’s this relative isolation which has led to a conservation programme to save the Tasmanian devil, which since the 1990s has been badly affected on the Tasmanian mainland by a deadly facial tumour disease.
Increased human encroachment on the snow leopard range was highlighted in a 2016 report that found that as many as 450 snow leopards are poached annually, mostly for traditional Chinese medicine and as trophy skins.
